A Day in Holland and A Strange Letter to Married Couples
Updated: Apr 27, 2021
“Hey, do we have plans this Saturday?”
“No, why?”
“Well, we do now!”

The next morning was perfect for a date to Holland, Michigan. Not because the morning light was softly coming through the windows and not because we had an early start to the day…but because the entire area that we live in lost power around 8:30 in the morning! Couldn’t have had a better-timed date day than that!
As we traveled up to Holland, our conversion floated from topic to topic, from serious to silly and everywhere in between. We had already decided that we were going to take some time and brainstorm a new project that we will be bringing to our business soon, but we wanted to walk the shops first! (more on that project in a later post;))
Holland is the kind of town where you can walk past 1) a family with 3 kids trying to pick up fallen ice cream, 2) a jogger listening to their tunes while knocking out mile three on their run, and 3) a group of college students trying to upgrade their newest Poke-mon Go Catch; all within 2-3 minutes of each other!
We still aren’t sure if this is just a Holland thing or if we just don’t go to boutiques that often, but every store that we entered had a completely different smell. It quickly became one of Josh’s favorite part of the day, finding out what the next store smelled like!

However, the best smell was yet to come as we finally arrived at our main destination, Ferris Coffee. Coffee houses are Josh’s happy place and Andrea has gone on record by saying that, if you get the right barista, Ferris makes her favorite cup of hot chocolate…ever. We loved getting to simply spend the next hours chatting about…well… you! Morning turned into afternoon as we talked about how we can better serve YOU and how we can create more experiences with our clients that we would want if we hired photographers.
Before leaving downtown Holland, we quickly hopped back outside into the cold, tried a new lens that we had purchased, and remembered that we love being behind the camera….and that we are still growing in how we like being in front of the camera. ;) But hey, we think it is so important that, as photographers, we need to be willing to get in front of the lens every now and then to remind ourselves what it is like having our photo taken!
We feel like it’s important for you to know, this isn’t every day for us. Our schedules are filled by other jobs and finding time for a date is difficult sometimes. But it doesn’t have to be big or expensive. Sometimes, it can just be a simple trip to a town you have never visited or a picnic in the local park that you have driven by hundreds of times. But please, do yourself a huge favor and keep finding ways to date each other. It’s definitely an investment of time, but it is more than worth it in the long run.
Thanks Holland, you were too good to us.
